After a yes and after a no, write what the buyer said, the page they mentioned if they mentioned one, and who decided. A single no is not a positioning failure. A single yes is not a channel. Fifteen minutes.

A buyer just said yes, or they just said no. Write what they said. Write the page if they mentioned one. Write who decided. Then write the sentence you will not infer. A single no is not a positioning failure. A single yes is not a channel. Fifteen minutes. Then stop. A research program is how the note never gets written, and how next quarter you invent a story from memory.

The note hangs off a conversation that already passed fit. That path is [from qualified conversation to proposal](https://simeoncreatives.com/blog/qualified-conversation-to-proposal). The blank you can print is the [qualification to proposal card](https://simeoncreatives.com/resources/qualification-to-proposal-card). A no from someone who never matched who, job, timing, and ability to buy is a no-fit you should have sent earlier. It is not a loss, and it does not get a win-loss essay.

## Four lines, same day

Do it the day the yes or the no becomes real. A yes is a written acceptance. A no is a written no, or a close-the-loop date that passed. An open maybe is not a loss yet. Do not write the note in advance so the file looks complete.

- **What they said: **their words, short. Not your paraphrase of their strategy. If you cannot remember the sentence, write UNKNOWN. Do not improve their wording.
- **Page, if they mentioned one: **the URL or the name they used. If they did not mention a page, write NONE. Do not open analytics and assign a landing page they never said.
- **Who decided: **the role, and the name if you have it. If you do not know who can say yes, UNKNOWN. Do not write the team.
- **What you will not infer: **one sentence. A single no is not a positioning failure. A single yes is not a channel. Write the version that matches this note, so future you cannot quietly upgrade it.

> Framework: the note records speech, a page they named, and a decision owner. It does not record a cause. Cause is a later argument, and one row cannot carry it.

## What you may write, and what you may not infer

Attribution fails in a predictable way. You wanted the homepage to be the reason, or you wanted the price to be the reason, or you wanted the channel you just started to be the reason. The buyer handed you a smaller fact. Keep the smaller fact.

| You may write | You may not infer |
| --- | --- |
| The sentence they used | The homepage failed, or the homepage won |
| A page they named | That page is the channel that produced the outcome |
| The person who decided | Everyone like them will decide the same way |
| The fence they accepted or refused | A new market rate, or a discount you should have offered |
| Timing they named | A positioning failure from one no, or a proven channel from one yes |

There is no win-rate target on this page. Do not compute one from the note. The scorecard is where a rate can live later, and only as won divided by proposals sent, when you actually know the yeses and the nos. One row does not set a target. A target set from one yes will make the next no look like a crisis. A target set from one no will make you rewrite the offer before you have a pattern.

- **Price refusal: **if they refused the fence, write that they refused the fence, in their words. That is not permission to invent a lower number. The floor and the fence live in how to price a productized service.
- **Timing: **next quarter is a fact if they said it. It is not a verdict on the unique value proposition (UVP). You did not test positioning. You heard a date.
- **Silence: **if you sent the close-the-loop note and the date passed, the no is the silence after that note. Do not fill the what they said line with a motive. UNKNOWN for their words. No for the outcome.

## Fifteen minutes, not a research program

Set a timer. If you are still writing at minute sixteen, you are building a case. Stop and file what you have. Interviews with people who did not buy, surveys, and a workshop about why the work was lost are a different project. They are not this note. You do not have their permission or their attention for a reconstructed interview. That interview would be a story you wrote.

1. **Minutes 1 to 5: **type what they said. Quotes if you have them. UNKNOWN if you do not. Do not polish.
2. **Minutes 6 to 8: **page they named, or NONE. Open that page only if they named it, and only to spell the URL correctly.
3. **Minutes 9 to 11: **who decided, or UNKNOWN. If two people must agree and you only met one, write that. Do not collapse them into a single buyer to make the note tidy.
4. **Minutes 12 to 15: **the will-not-infer line. Read it once. If it smuggles a cause, delete the cause. File the note on the customer relationship management (CRM) row, or the sheet row, next to the proposal date.

Do not add a dashboard for these notes. A folder of fifteen-minute notes is the system. If you cannot find last month notes, the store is wrong. Fix the column. Do not start a tool evaluation inside the fifteen minutes.

## A pattern is several notes, still not a target

After several notes, you may notice the same will-not-infer line trying to become a conclusion. They keep naming timing. They keep refusing the out list. They keep mentioning one page. That is a candidate for a review, not a finding you lock inside one sitting.

Take the stack to the [growth scorecard](https://simeoncreatives.com/blog/service-business-growth-scorecard) rhythm, or to the [90-day baseline](https://simeoncreatives.com/blog/ninety-day-growth-baseline) if you are still in week 0 and do not yet know yes from no. Several notes still do not set a win-rate target. They tell you which question to ask next time. If the notes say the fence was refused, reread [how to price a productized service](https://simeoncreatives.com/blog/price-a-productized-service) before you change the number. If every loss is actually a missing slot, the constraint is capacity, and the tree is [how to choose a growth bottleneck before a channel](https://simeoncreatives.com/blog/how-to-choose-growth-bottleneck-before-channel).

- **Same sentence, three notes: **write the sentence once at the top of the stack. Do not upgrade it to the market said.
- **Same page, named by them: **read that page against the words they used. You may fix a contradiction. You may not claim the page caused the yes or the no.
- **UNKNOWN piled up: **you are not listening, or you are not writing the same day. That is the operations fix. It is not a branding failure.

When the note is boring, write the steps so someone else can file the next one. That is [SOPs before automation](https://simeoncreatives.com/blog/sops-before-automation). Automating a note that still invents causes will only file fiction faster.

## Hypothetical, labeled

Hypothetical, a no. They said the scope is clear and they cannot start until next quarter. They mentioned the services page. The person on the call said they decide. You write those three facts. The will-not-infer line says: this is not a positioning failure, and it is not a verdict on the price. You do not write that search failed. You do not write that the services page needs a redesign. You do not know those things from one sentence.

Hypothetical, a yes. They said the proposal matched the job you scoped. They did not mention a page. You write NONE. They did not name a source. You do not write that outreach works, or that the homepage works, or that the price is now the market rate. What these two notes do not prove: a close rate, a channel, or a new fence. They prove you can stop a story in fifteen minutes.

If they named a page, open that page and write what it actually says beside their sentence. Selected work on [/work](https://simeoncreatives.com/work) is an example of how a job is shown. It is not proof a channel produced your yes. If the notes keep saying the fence was refused, start that conversation at [contact](https://simeoncreatives.com/contact).

## FAQs

### How long should the note take?

Fifteen minutes, the day of the yes or the no. Five for their words, a few for the page or NONE, a few for who decided or UNKNOWN, the rest for the line you will not infer. If it becomes a research project, you are avoiding the next proposal.

### Is one no a positioning failure?

No. One no is one no. Write what they said. A positioning failure is a claim you earn from a pattern you are willing to reread, not from a single sentence that disappointed you.

### Is one yes proof the channel works?

No. A single yes is not a channel. If they did not name a source, write NONE. Do not assign the yes to search, outreach, or a page you hope did the work.

### What if they did not mention a page?

Write NONE. Do not guess a landing page from your analytics in this sitting. Guessing is fake attribution with a screenshot attached.

### Where do I store the note?

On the same customer relationship management (CRM) row, or sheet row, as the qualified conversation. If they were never qualified, this is not a loss note. Send the no-fit from the qualification to proposal card instead.
